Cash grant helps angling club improve fishing conditions

AN ANGLING club has landed a big cash grant after reeling in a five-figure donation.

The Wansbeck and Cramlington Angling Club, which has 470 members, can move ahead with a substantial upgrade of its facilities after receiving £32,000 from the Banks Group.

The club, which operates from the QEII Country Park Lake in Ashington and the Milkhope Lake on the Blagdon Estate, will use the money to dredge around four feet of silt from the bottom of Milkhope to improve fishing conditions.

And the funds will also cover the cost of levelling and rebuilding the lake’s west bank to provide an island pier to help access for the club’s 70 disabled members.

Treasurer Brendan Heslop said: “Making these changes has required a major investment that would have been beyond the club’s resources, and we’re extremely grateful to Banks for the donation, which will benefit members both now and long into the future.”
