A brand new basketball club has been launched in Blyth with the help of Newcastle Eagles.
Northumberland Sport, Newcastle Eagles and The Blyth Academy teamed up to launch the club at the academy.
And on the launch night the National Champions Team Northumbria Women’ where in attendance to showcase their skills and lead a session with 30 girls and 50 boys.
The basketball club is aimed at all 11 to 18-year-olds of mixed gender and ability, allowing young people to socially interact and develop skills within the sport through a range of drills.
For the first half hour of the launch session, Team Northumbria Women showed their drills and skills to the audience.
Then for an hour 30 girls were involved in a session led by the Team Northumbria head coach Josh Merrington.
The 30 students and eight players mixed together in a range of team-building exercises, basic basketball dribbling drills and then finished off with a series of matches.
And two lucky students were selected to win tickets to see a forthcoming Newcastle Eagles game.
Following that another session with the 50 boys was held, where the ability levels were mixed between complete new players to some players at The Blyth Academy who are already in the Newcastle Eagles School of Excellence.
The club will run every Tuesday night with girls only sessions from 6pm to 7pm.
Boys only sessions will run from 7pm until 8pm.
Mr Kennerley, from The Blyth Academy, said: “This is an excellent opportunity for students of all ages to get involved in a fun basketball club in the Blyth area.
“I would like to say a huge thank you to Northumberland Sport, Newcastle Eagles and Team Northumbria for their support in making the launch event go as successfully as possible.”
