Charity workers bring wildlife to the community

CHARITY workers in Bedlington held and Action Earth Event last week to bring more wildlife to a community area used by more than 160 people.

The event, 'Don't buzz off, just bee happy' was held by Choysez, which works with young people to increase their confidence and self-esteem who are referred to the charity from school and the county council.

The project has been working across Northumberland for over 10 years supporting and empowering young people to take advantage of life's opportunities.

Kelly McKenna, Finance & Administration Manager said: "The event has been sponsored by Action Earth to improve our surroundings and help the environment.

"The young people have really taken ownership of this project and it has been a great success.

"We always try to involve the young people in their communities and the money raised from the coffee morning, we also had today will go to Wansbeck special care baby unit."

Jack Hemmings, Aaron Hinsley, Curtis Telford and Jay Laws were involved in planting the garden and they have been working hard at Choysez completing their Asdan Activity Awards, Stepping Stones Awards and Lifeboat Awards. They have also been learning about saving the environment.

Donna Thompson, the groups Project Worker said: "I am so proud of the work the boy's and Sarah have put in today and since they started with

Choysez this year. They are really doing well here and have achieved so much, they are a pleasure to teach."

Sarah Kenny, 16, also helped with the coffee morning by selling cakes and tea to the people who came to the event and all the money raised from this will go to help the babies in need at Wansbeck General

Hospital too.

Choysez will be running two further events including making bird boxes and planting a herb garden.

The activity is part of a five-month campaign called CSV Action Earth supported by Morrison's supermarkets.

It is organised by the national (CSV) and involves over 900 voluntary organisations that will be undertaking projects that are of immediate use and lasting benefit to the environment.
