Children on their marks for fun run

Youngsters of all ages are being encouraged to get their running shoes on for a campaign.

‘INEOS GO Run for Fun’ will be taking place at Morpeth Chantry Middle School on Thursday, August 21.

It is the second year the event is taking place at the Morpeth school with the national campaign encouraging children aged five to ten to be active.

The initiative – which has more than 145 schools taking part in 40 towns and cities – is the brainchild of Jim Ratcliffe, owner of manufacturing company INEOS.

He said: “I’m passionate about getting as many children running as possible as early as possible.

“The idea is simple – to get children out of the house having fun. It is not rocket science.

“Running is the basis of so many great sports. If our children can catch the running bug early, they’re more likely to stick to it, and this can only lead to them having more active and healthier lifestyles in the future.”

More than 30,000 children have taken part in its runs since August last year.

And now schools and colleges can get involved in GO Run For Fun in the classroom by clicking on the Go Challenge Zone at www.gorunforfun.com
