Church sees appeal off to a good start

An appeal to raise funds to carry out essential repairs to a church tower in the county has already raised nearly £2,000.

St Cuthbert’s, the parish church in Bedlington, is hoping to raise £20,000 to undertake repairs to the 19th century tower which dominates the centre of the town.

Money from a copper coin image has raised a further £964.10 to be added to money raised from a sponsored walk and a donation from the Bedlingtonshire Chamber of Trade.

Further donations are coming in from the Sponsor a Stone initiative, where people can pay £20 to dedicate a stone to a loved one.

Anyone wishing to be part of this initiative can call Brian Thompson on (01670) 828493, or call into the church on Thursdays between 11am and 1pm in addition to the normal services and coffee mornings, for more details.
