A CLUB in Blyth is calling on football fans to help secure a £100,000 jackpot from the Budweiser Club Futures Programme.

In December, the club successfully secured £50,000 in funding and now it has the chance to win double that amount if supporters cast a vote for the club.

Blyth Town FC are going head to head with seven others in a bid to win the extra £100,000, which would allow them to resurface the multi-use games area and allow other local clubs to make use of the facilities.

Sandra Orr, chairwoman of the club, said: “Winning this grant is already a massive boost for our club, but winning an additional £100,000 would mean so much more.

“We would resurface our multi use games area with 3G and extend to allow 7v7 and 9v9 mini soccer to be played.

“The enhancements would also enable us to hire our the facility to local clubs who can’t afford the more expensive options.”

The ‘Super Grant’ top-up from the programme, which is backed by FA Cup sponsors Budweiser and The FA, means that from January 28 until February 28, fans can view the clubs’ videos and cast their votes on facebook.com/budweiseruk and facebook.com/thefacup

The £50,000 grant already secured is going to help Blyth Town fund a project that will help support the club’s ambition to extend the community room, further improving the club’s facilities, making it more self sufficient and create a legacy within the community, and develop its younger players.

The scheme also has the backing of Newcastle United manager and Budweiser Club Futures ambassador, Alan Pardew.

He said: “Having started my career at grassroots level, I know just how hard it is to sustain a local club and can appreciate the importance of a programme like Budweiser Club Futures.

“The clubs have already received a significant amount of money at the £50,000 stage, but this injection would be like a huge lottery win for one club.

“We had some great applications at the £50,000 stage and had hard decisions in choosing the eight winning clubs.

“This is why we thought it best to hand the £100,000 vote over to the football fans.”
