Members of a lunch club which caters for elderly people are celebrating as the group reaches an important milestone.

Age UK Northumberland’s lunch club in Bedlington originally catered for older people in the community who attended St John’s Church and Colliery Methodist Church.

And this year it celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Run by Joan Ellison, the club serves hot meals for more than 20 members of the community every Tuesday.

And it was Joan’s aunt, Ella York, who originally set up the group in Bedlington YMCA in 1974.

The lunch club costs £5 per week and includes two courses and tea and coffee.
