Company on the shortlist

A BLYTH company has been shortlisted for five manufacturing excellence awards.

Compressed Air Breathing Apparatus and fire and gas detection systems manufacturer Draeger Safety UK Ltd has been selected for as part of the Institution of Mechanical Engineers’ Manufacturing Excellence Awards 2011.

Director of engineering at the Blyth plant, Colin Brown, said: “Draeger Safety is a fantastic business that is helping to ensure manufacturing remains at the heart of Northumberland’s economy.

“It is exciting to see a company excel in so many different parts of its business and we hope we can inspire more local manufacturers to take part and benefit from the Manufacturing Excellence programme.”

The company has been shortlisted for awards in Customer Focus, Innovation in Products and Processes, Logistics and Operational Efficiency, People Effectiveness and the Most Improved Company.

As part of the awards programme, companies are asked to conduct an in-depth self assessment of the business, and those who complete one or more of the eight parts receive a free, bespoke and confidential benchmark report.

The best companies in each module then receive a free visit from a team of expert assessors who verify the audit responses and offer practical advice and suggestions for the business.

Assessors and moderators will now visit Draeger’s plant at the Riverside Business Park in Blyth.

The awards will be presented at a ceremony being held at the Dorchester in London on November 23.
