A Commonwealth swimming champion has been selected as a judge for a competition offering a cash boost to a sports club.
Miller Homes North East – which has developments in Blyth and Seaton Delaval – is offering local sports clubs and organisations the chance to enter its Summer of Sport competition.
The event gives clubs a chance to win £500, with Olympic and Commonwealth swimmer Chris Cook being guest judge.
Entrants have to say in no more than 200 words why their sports club deserves to win, how the money will benefit the club and what it will be spent on.
Chris said: “Miller Homes’ Summer of Sport competition is a fantastic opportunity to help local clubs and organisations boost what they do with much needed finance.
“Having been involved with sports clubs all my life, I know that this kind of support goes a long way to benefit not only individuals but groups, teachers, and coaches to do what they do so well with extra equipment and training.”
Entry forms are available from Miller Homes’ developments.
The closing date for entries is Monday, September 15.
Chris and judges from Miller Homes will be looking for examples of how the sports clubs in each community will make the most out of the donation, for details of how it will directly support the learning and fitness of its members and examples of what new equipment they will be able to buy.
Miller Homes North East’s regional sales manager, Andrew Somerville, added: “When it comes to supporting local communities we are always keen to get involved, particularly if our support can provide opportunities for education, sport or development, and it is fantastic to have the backing of a local north east athlete.
“Building great communities is at the heart of our ethos and we are confident that initiatives such as Summer of Sport go a long way towards nurturing these.
“We strongly encourage anyone with an affiliation to a sports team or club to have a go, and wish all entrants the very best of luck.”
