Plans to build a landmark new development to enhance Blyth estuary’s reputation is progressing now a contractor has been appointed.
Bowmer & Kirkland Limited will carry out the first phase of development on the Commissioners Quay site.
The work begins this month with a building completion date of February 2015.
Over the next three years Arch, The Northumberland Development Company, is leading the delivery of a mixed use development of the site as part of the regeneration of the estuary and town centre, to include commercial, residential and retail/leisure uses.
Coun Dave Ledger, deputy leader of the council and chairman of Arch, said: “I look forward to this becoming core to the on-going regeneration.”
The development has received investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) Competitiveness Programme 2007 – 2013, the Homes and Communities Agency, Arch and the NELEP North East Investment Fund.
