Contractors involved in talks on £30m bypass

CONTRACTORS earmarked for a multi-million pound road scheme have been given a look at what they will be involved in.

An event was held on Wednesday, February 27, by Northumberland County Council for contractors to see the outline plans for the Morpeth Northern Bypass road scheme.

It will take place at Longhirst Hall, near Morpeth, where the council will engage with local providers and advise them of the proposals, the procurement process and the potential supply chain opportunities.

The event will promote the use of local employment to contractors and the provision of training opportunities for local people, as well as a question and answer session for contractors to discuss key issues with council officers.

The supplier event is another milestone in the progress of the £30m scheme which will link the A1 north of Morpeth with the south east of the county.

Construction work on the bypass is expected to begin in Autumn 2014, with completion by summer 2016.
