A contractor has been appointed for a new housing development in south east Northumberland.

Work is due to start on the site of the former Blyth Valley Council offices in Seaton Delaval in the next couple of weeks.

And Turney Wylde Construction from North Shields has been appointed to build the 28 houses and apartments.

These will be a mix of two and three-bedroom family homes and a small number of apartments.

The first new properties will be ready in October and the building works are expected to be completed by the middle of January 2015.

Peter McIntyre, Arch Group managing director, which is organising the work, said: “These new homes at Seaton Delaval will be Arch’s first major investment in developing a new rental housing offer in Northumberland, and our first direct housing development.”
