Council workers honoured at awards ceremony

LOCAL government workers in Northumberland have been honoured at a national award ceremony.

Three representatives from Northumberland County Council were crowned Local Government Community Heroes at the first Development Trusts Association awards ceremony.

The event, which took place at London's South Bank last month, was held to recognise the outstanding work and support individuals had offered to community enterprise in their area.

A total of 21 councillors and officers were nominated by their local development trust, and Councillor Pat Scott, head of regeneration Andy Dean, and economic development manager Steve Revell, were each presented with an award designed by South Bank Mosaics.

Councillor Scott was nominated by North Sunderland and Seahouses Development Trust, for her development of a Young Rangers environmental training scheme, as well as her work to purchase and refurbish a community resource centre.

Andy Dean's assistance and support in the establishment of 'Prudhoe Info Point' in his role as Director of Regeneration and Communities at the former Tynedale Council won him a nomination from Prudhoe Community Partnership.

As head of regeneration at the former Alnwick District Council, Steve Revell was nominated for an award by Alnwick Community Development Trust. His work on a variety of projects was regarded as instrumental in maintaining and improving communication between the district council and the trust. His involvement in Alnwick's 'Market Town Welcome Initiative' was also highlighted in the nomination.

Richard Robson, executive director of place for Northumberland County Council, said: "These awards recognise the hard work and commitment that Cllr Scott, Andy and Steve have invested in regeneration work across the county.

"They are also evidence of the importance that our councillors and officers place on partnership working with Development Trusts for the benefit of local communities."
