A VOLUNTEER is needed to join the Northumberland Safeguarding Children Board (NSCB) and help build closer ties with the local community.
There is a vacancy for a lay member and the person chosen will attend board meetings and contribute to discussions.
The board is made up of senior representatives from all organisations in Northumberland who are involved in safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children.
The role of the volunteer will be to help support these bodies and develop closer links with residents and groups so there is a better understanding of the child safety work that is carried out across the county.
Ideally, candidates will live in Northumberland and have close ties with community organisations. Expenses such as travel costs will be reimbursed.
Coun Lesley Rickerby, executive member for children and young people, said: “For those people making resolutions to carry out voluntary work or become more involved in their community, I would appeal to them to put something back into their county and consider this important, worthwhile role.”
An enhanced CRB disclosure with a children and adults’ barred list check will be required. Those who have been employed by any agency represented on the NSCB in the past 12 months may not apply.
For an application pack or to discuss the role further, contact Saira Park on (01670) 623980 or e-mail Saira.Park@northumberland.gov.uk The closing date for applications is January 31.
