Crime fighting puppies celebrate competition - Video

EIGHT adorable puppies who are the crime fighters of the future played host to the winners of Northumbria Police's Puppy watch competition on Friday.

The three lucky winners visited the force's head quarters in Ponteland for some big cuddles from the four-month-old pups and got the chance to watch some fully trained police dogs in action.

Northumbria Police's newest recruits were made famous on the force's website through its 'puppycam' and 'dog blog'.

Alongside 215 others entrants, Danielle Stobbart, 17, from Sunderland, Emily Young, 12, from Houghton-le-Spring, and 11-year-old Conal Scudamore from Haydon Bridge entered a competition before Christmas to guess the names of the pups.

The three correctly guessed that the puppies were called Bruce, Chase, Kaiser, Rick, Rico, Tala, Storm and Vegas and today they got to claim their prize.

Danielle said she had stumbled upon the competition and got an email saying that she had won on Christmas Day.

"It was great seeing them training and doing this agility course – it was really interesting," she said of her visit to the dog section.

The winners, accompanied by family and friends, had their photographs taken with the puppies and a tour of the kennels.

Sergeant Dave Little of the dog section said: "Today our competition winners got the opportunity to come along to our Dog Section in Ponteland and see the puppies in person - rather than on-line.

"This has been the first time we've tried using a web-cam to film the dogs like this and we're delighted that it's proved so popular.

"People have been able to see the new born dogs and follow them through their first few weeks.

"Now they are moving on to their training to become future crime fighters and visitors will be able to continue to track their progress on the website through videos and photographs."
