Cyclist killed in Spine Road collision

A 70-year-old cyclist was killed this afternoon (Thursday) in an accident on the A189 Spine Road.

Emergency Services were called to the incident on the A189 just before 1.30pm, which involved a pedal cycle, a Ford Mondeo and a Ford Transit van.

The male pedal cyclist was pronounced dead at the scene and the male driver and female passenger of the Ford Mondeo were taken to hospital with non-life threatening injuries.

The road was closed for three hours and reopened at 4.40pm.

Enquiries are ongoing and a 22-year-old been arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving.
