A father-of-two is preparing to take part in a gruelling sporting challenge to raise money for the hospital that saved his daughter’s life.
Michael Hooley, from Cramlington, will be taking on the C2C5 in aid of the Children’s Heart Unit Fund (CHUF), to thank the Freeman Hospital and raise awareness of the need for organ donors.
His nine-year-old daughter Rachel underwent heart surgery in February 2012.
Michael said: “Without the Organ Donor Register, Rachel would not be here today.”
Now he is taking on a mammoth challenge that will see him cycle 75 miles from Whitehaven to Keswick on the first day, swimming one mile across Derwentwater and cycling a further 65 miles the second day, running 37 miles the third day, and ending on the fourth day by running a marathon to Tynemouth.
