Damsel comes to the aid of hall appeal - Video

'DAMSEL' the horse visited Seaton Delaval Hall on Tuesday to help launch a race day which could raise more than £25,000 for the ongoing appeal to save the historic property.

Newcastle Racecourse joined the fundraising campaign by agreeing to donate a percentage of ticket sales from their Seaton Delaval Trophy Day on Thursday, June 25, to the National Trust's appeal.

The race day forms part of the Northumberland Plate Festival and can entertain up to 28,000 people, and if ticket sales match those of last year, the racecourse could raise more than 25,000 for the appeal.

Race-goers must quote 'National Trust' when booking for the money to be allocated to the appeal.

National Trust communications officer Sadie Parker said: "It is fantastic that Newcastle Racecourse is getting behind our campaign.

"With the potential of raising a very substantial amount I hope that people who do enjoy the races, or have never been before, take this opportunity to have a great day out whilst helping our campaign.

"If the day is as popular as last year, and everyone quotes National Trust when booking, we could raise more than 25,000, which is a phenomenal amount."

Seaton Delaval Trophy day takes place on Thursday, June 25, and gates open at 12.30pm before the first race commences at 2.30pm, with the last race at 5pm.

Premier enclosure tickets cost 19 and the all inclusive hospitality package is 161.

Tickets are on sale now on (0191) 236 2020 and Premier Enclosure tickets can also be booked online at www.newcastle-racecourse.co.uk

Ms Parker: "We'd like to urge other local businesses to get in touch if they think they can help our campaign in the way that Newcastle Racecourse is doing.

"So far we have raised 2.85m to save Seaton Delaval Hall and the target is 6.3m, so we still have a long way to go."

The National Trust's appeal to Save Seaton Delaval Hall and 400 acres of its surrounding historic landscape was launched in July 2008, and so far more than 100,000 people have pledged their support by donating time and money to save one of Northumberland's greatest estates.
