Dennis’ tea party invite at palace

The chair of an Ashington charity has been rewarded for his charitable efforts with an invitation to Buckingham Palace.

Dennis Turner, who is the chairman of the Friends of Ashington Woods, was invited to attend the Royal Garden Party at the palace.

His wife Helene, who accompanied him on the trip, said: “We went to Australia to celebrate my 60th birthday and came back and there was a really nice envelope with the palace image on it.

“I saw it and thought ‘flipping heck, what’s this’?

“It was such a surreal day, but such an honour.

“There were thousands of people there and it was a fabulous day.

“It was wonderful for Dennis to get the recognition for what he does, and he really enjoyed the day.

“It was an incredible experience, and is something that I will be telling people forever.”
