An unusual event is taking place to help raise funds to buy an important community building in south east Northumberland.
Seaton Sluice Community Centre Committee is looking to purchase its building, and has now enlisted the help of the Rotary Club of Blyth which is preparing to hold a duck race to raise vital funds.
Rotarian Les Fay said: “We are determined to assist in some way this year as a quarter of our members have a Seaton Sluice connection, and we have so far raised more than £550 with a Greek night that we held recently.
“We are now organising a duck race, in the Dene which runs through the village, on the afternoon of Saturday, April 26.
“We are having a bit of a garden fete-style event to accompany the race with charity stalls and kids’ activities.
“We will be launching 500 plastic ducks into the river below Starlight Castle and are selling tickets for two races in that one is for kids with a prize of an Xbox and a £100 games token, the other is for adults with a £200 prize, both donated by local businesses.”
There will also be a prize for the best painted duck, with the ducks being painted by local primary school children.
