A new historical DVD that celebrates 150 years of the Northumberland Miners’ Picnics has been put together.
The first Northumberland Miners’ Picnic was held in 1864 at Blyth Links, and a special DVD featuring rare archive footage and still photographs of the picnics over the years has now been produced to celebrate the 150th anniversary.
John Dawson from local history group Sixtownships, who put the production together, said: “This DVD will ignite your memories.
“We have picnics from Tynemouth, Morpeth, Ashington and the town that held it the most, Bedlington.
“Witness the bands and miners banners along with the juvenile jazz bands as they march along the street and listen to the music and crowds clapping and cheering as they pass.”
The DVD is priced at £5.79 and is available from.sixtownships.org.uk
