Energy switching scheme deadline extended

HOUSEHOLDERS now have more time to be part of an innovative collective energy switching scheme which could save them hundreds of pounds on their energy bills.

More than 13,000 people across the country have signed up to the Ready to Switch? scheme so far, which is being led by Northumberland County Council in partnership with 11 other councils – making it the biggest local authority led collective switching scheme in the UK.

Northumberland has achieved more sign-ups than any of the other local authority area to date – with more than 5,500 residents expressing an interest.

More people will now be able to take advantage of the sceme, due to the deadline extension.

The deadline to register has been extended until January 28 to provide the opportunity to get the best possible deal for residents and maximise potential savings on their energy bills.

All those who have signed up to the scheme have been contacted to tell them about the extension of the registration period.

The auction for energy companies is now planned for January 29, and households will receive their offers in early February.

There is no obligation to accept any offer at the conclusion of the ready to switch scheme, and you can opt out at any time.

To register for the free scheme visit www.readytoswitch.co.uk and provide contact details, the name of your supplier and details of your current energy usage and tariff.

For those without internet access call Northumberland County Council on 0845 600 6400, call in to any customer information centre or email Energy@northumberland.gov.uk

The councils taking part in the scheme are: Northumberland County Council, Peterborough City Council, Blackpool Council, Cheshire West and Chester Council, Hertfordshire County Council, Hull City Council, London Borough of Havering Council, Luton Borough Council, South Holland District Council, Suffolk Coastal District Council, Waveney District Council, and Wiltshire Council.
