Fireworks disorder is on the rise
PARENTS are being asked to help play a part in reducing youth disorder in an area of Blyth.
Northumbria Police is hoping to get parents on board as key partners to tackle issues in the Cowpen area of the town.
There has been a large amount of disorder linked to fireworks and drinking in and around The Briardale Centre in Briardale Road, and the Briardale playing fields.
The Blyth neighbourhood policing team is working with Homes For Northumberland, Community Safety, the local multi agency partnerships and Chris Antony, a youth worker from Blyth Community College.
Together they are looking at CCTV and joint partnership visits to offenders and their parents.
Blyth Neighbourhood Sergeant Garry Neill said: “We’d like to appeal to parents to be aware of where their children are and what they are up to.
“Evidence is being collected which could lead to prosecution for throwing fireworks and criminal damage.”
Chief fire officer for Northumberland Fire and Rescue Service, Alex Bennett, said: “Throwing fireworks and setting them off without care for the safety of people, pets or property is extremely dangerous and could lead to prosecution.”
Two juveniles have been arrested for throwing fireworks, and two 21-year-old men were reported for setting fireworks off in the street. They now risk being fined up to £5,000.
