An Ashington company has been named the overall winner at a north east export awards ceremony.
A-Belco Ltd took home the overall exporter of the year award at the ceremony held at Ramside Hall Hotel in County Durham.
The company, which specialises in explosion proof electrical equipment, and has seen export sales increase by 40 per cent from 2011 to 2012 and again by 40 per cent in 2013, also picked up the SME exporter of the year title.
Now in their 19th year, the awards are sponsored by the North East Chamber of Commerce (NECC) and HSBC.
James Rambsotham, chief executive of NECC, said: “The achievements of these companies who are setting the regional pace in exports should not be underestimated – their skill and effort have helped the north east reap the rewards of going global.
“These are the businesses helping ensure that the north east is the only region in the country with a long-standing positive balance of trade and that our region performs above the national average in exports on a per-capita basis.”
