Footbridge is to be replaced in near future

PROGRESS is being made to gain access to a vital footbridge in Cramlington.

Northumberland County Council is currently working with Network Rail to gain the necessary technical approvals for the removal of the existing Beaconhill footbridge and its replacement.

A council spokesman said: “Network Rail has given us a concession that they will accelerate the process for obtaining possessions, reducing the time required by more than half.

“This will allow us to remove the footbridge in eigh to ten weeks’ time.

“The replacement footbridge will be installed subsequently.

“We can confirm the timescale when we have concluded our discussions with Network Rail and a number of footbridge manufacturers.”

A free shuttle bus service will continue to run until the work is carried out.

The service will run from 9.30am to 10.30am, with two return services, 2.30pm to 3pm with one return service, and 4.30pm to 5pm, with one return service.

The bus runs from Longridge Way to bus stops on Forum Way (near the library), and will be marked with a temporary shuttle stop marker and appropriate timetable.

A temporary pedestrian and cycle diversion route will be maintained during this period.
