Fund to help community transport

Communities in south east Northumberland are being encouraged to access better local transport through the latest round of a sustainable community fund.

The Get Going Fund is open to community and voluntary sector organisations, parish and town councils.

It works in partnership with Northumberland’s community transport or taxi operators to pilot new and sustainable ways of providing transport for local communities.

Northumberland County Council is providing £150,000 of central government funding through rounds eight and nine of the fund with the aim of improving community transport within the communities they serve across the county.

Coun Ian Swithenbank, policy board member for streetcare and environment, said: “We are really pleased that central government has given this funding and we are confident that it will be spent for the best benefit for the people of Northumberland.

“We would encourage Northumberland communities to see how they can apply and use the funding in their areas.”

Previous rounds of Get Going are currently supporting a range of community transport initiatives.

The next closing dates for applying are Friday, April 25, for round eight and Friday, June 6, for round nine.
