Funding will train archive volunteers for project

BLYTH Tallship Project is looking for volunteers after securing funding to train archivists.

The project has been awarded grants from both the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Community Learning Innovation Fund to train people in archive restoration and oral history development.

Project manager Clive Gray said: “We are delighted that the innovative work we are doing, developing the Port of Blyth Archive, restoring traditional wooden boats and looking to conserve the memories of those who remember ship building in the port, is gaining recognition and funding.”

Volunteer co-ordinator Tony Flisher said: “Our volunteers have a great time, finding a real home from home here, as well as making new friends and learning new skills.

“With the new funding we can offer them professional support and guidance in developing the historic archive of the port and we are now looking for interested people to join our volunteer team.”

Anybody who is interested in volunteering should email tony@blythtallship.co.uk
