A teenager marked her 16th birthday in style by completing a tandem skydive in aid of charity.

Brooke Pritchard, from Ashington, marked her special day by taking part in a 12,000ft freefall jump at the Peterlee Parachute Centre.

The crew of the plane sang ‘happy birthday’ as she flew up, and when she returned to earth her family and friends were waiting with a birthday banner.

Brooke, who had to wait until the legal age of 16 to take part in the skydive, smashed her £500 fundraising target, raising £844.10 for St Oswald’s Hospice.

She now plans to take further training to become a qualified freefall parachutist.

Brooke, who wanted to take part in a skydive after seeing her father complete one when she was just five, and her family thanked all those who sponsored her for her jump.

Dad Wayne said: “It was an amazing day. Kind thanks to all who helped her achieve the money raised.”
