n Roger Furse, who designed the costumes for Hamlet including one worn by Sir Laurence Olivier, was awarded an Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 1948, the first costume Oscar to be awarded to a British costume designer. He was also awarded an Academy Award for Best Art Direction for the film.
n Penny Rose was nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Costume Design in 2003 for Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl, and again in 2006, for Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest, where she made many doubles of Johnny Depp’s costume to accommodate him and his six stunt doubles
n James Acheson was awarded an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and nominated for a BAFTA Film Award for Best Costume design in 1995, for his work on the film adaptation of the novel Restoration by Rose Tremain
n Jenny Beavan and John Bright were nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and a BAFTA Film Award for Best Costume design in 1995, for their designs used in Sense and Sensibility
n Bob Ringwood was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Costume Design in 2005 for the work he carried out on costumes in the hit film Troy, which, with a production budget of $175m, is one of the most expensive films made in modern cinema
n In 2000 Janty Yates designed the cosumes for Ridley Scott's Gladiator, dressing up to 3,000 extras a day in some scenes.
She won an Oscar for her work on this film.
n In 2008 Michael O’Connor was awarded an Academy Award for Best Costume Design and a BAFTA Film Award for Best Costume Design for his work on The Duchess, where Keira Knightly appears in almost every scene of the film, and wears 27 different costumes.
