A senior police chief has been appointed as the officer to oversee policing across Northumberland.
Chief Superintendent Gordon Milward joins the area command from headquarters where he was head of the Criminal Justice Department.
Ch Supt Milward said: “I’m absolutely delighted to be appointed as area commander for Northumberland.
“My priorities for Northumberland are to continue to reduce crime and disorder, and to bring offenders to justice so that the area remains one of the safest places to live in the country.
“Delivering a first class service to victims and witnesses is crucial – making sure that vulnerable people and victims of crime receive the support and the advice they need.
“Our communities rightly expect an excellent policing service and I will work tirelessly to make sure it is delivered.”
Ch Supt Milward started his policing career in Newcastle in 1985.
Since then he has worked in Wallsend as a sergeant, inspector and chief inspector before moving to the county.
He first worked in Northumberland as a superintendent in 2005 before being stationed in Gateshead.
