Gym appeal bags 100lbs

Members of a ladies only fitness centre in Cramlington have donated more than 100lbs of food as part of an annual charity campaign.

Every year Curves, based at Admiral Park Business Park in the town, hold a month-long food drive to encourage members to donate items which can be given to local causes.

This year more than 100lbs worth of food – including pet food – was donated in March.

This will now be shared between Wansbeck Valley Food Bank, and pet charities Safe Homes and Kindess (SHAK) and People’s Animal Rescue and Rehoming Team (PARRT).

Curves manager Sarah Bickerton said she was delighted with the amount of food donated by members, especially during the recession.

“A huge thank you to all of our members who donated food,” she said.

“This has been one of our best years and we have done really well this time.”

New members were also encouraged to sign up with the fee of a bag of food.
