Hat’s the way to do it for Lucy in talent competition
Lucy Conroy from Stakeford.
more than 1,000 people turned out for a fundraising event held in Bedlington at the weekend.
The fun day, titled the Big Event, was organised by social enterprise Leading Link and held at the Lodge at St Benet Biscop Catholic High School to raise money for Bauer Radio’s Cash for Kids charity.
Featuring various stalls and funfair rides, it also offered a look back at Bedlington’s history over the last 60 years as a nod to the Queen’s diamond jubilee celebrations.
Organiser Lyn Horton said: “This was a massive success for the community.
“We are pleased that so many people came along to join in, and we are also grateful to Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery for opening our community orchard.”
The highlight of the day was a variety show talent contest featuring acts as diverse as dance troupes and a punk band.
The winner was Stakeford’s Lucy Conroy, nine, pictured, a member of the Hunter Theatre Arts stage school in Bedlington, for her impersonation of the Cat in the Hat from the Dr Seuss books.
The judges for the contest were music promoter Colin Patterson, athlete Titi Ameobi and Radio Northumberland presenter Keith Newman.
