A BLYTH runner has secured a place in the National Cross Country Championships being held in Derbyshire next month.

Eighteen-year-old Jake Jansen qualified from the Northumberland run for the inter county event at Guisborough, where he finished sixth to book his place in the national final on March 16.

The Blyth Running Club member has also completed three sponsored runs for St Wilfrid’s in Blyth, the Manchester 10k race for St Oswald’s Hospice and he ran the Great North Run last September, where he came in 354th out of 54,500 competitors and was the third fastest under 18 at 84 minutes, raising £600 for the Newcastle Foundation for Disabled and Under Privileged Children.

In the last three years Jake has raised more than £1,600 for charity.

Jake has been accepted to study sports sciences at University of Sunderland and also has a place at Gateshead Sports College starting in October, pending exam results.

The national race in Derbyshire will be televised on Sky Sports on Saturday, March 16.
