Festive fun came to a Bedlington school before the holidays as pupils and staff took part in national Christmas Jumper Day – all in the name of charity.

Pupils at Bedlingtonshire Community High School took part in the special fundraiser – a national day organised by Save the Children to raise much needed funds for the charity by donating money to wear a festive jumper.

The event saw thousands taking part throughout the country.

Students and staff at the school all took part in the event, paying a contribution for the privilege of wearing a Christmas jumper.

The £173 raised will be split between Save the Children and the Alastair Aitken Fund – a fund set up in memory of a teacher at the school who died in a mountaineering accident in 2009.

Headteacher Stephen Griffiths said: “The students and staff made such a great effort – the school looked a much brighter place with all the Christmas jumpers.

“Such a simple way to raise money for two such worthy causes, that brought smiles to everyone’s faces.”
