Lauren’s award for Girlguiding support

A TEENAGER from Cramlington has been recognised for making a significant contribution to Girlguiding.

Lauren Carroll, currently helping with 6th Cramlington Guides, has received an award from county commissioner Dorothy Minns, in recognition of her achievements in swimming and lifesaving.

A member of Blyth Lifeguard and Swimming Club, 16-year-old Lauren has recently participated in the Lifesaving Commonwealth Championships in South Africa and the Dutch Lifesaving Nationals.

As well as training locally five times a week, Lauren, pictured, also trains during the year with other swimmers, who have been identified as having potential.

She said: “I was so happy to receive the award as it helps to emphasise the importance of life-saving and swimming skills for girls living in a coastal area.”
