A Northumbrian farm shop has been recognised for producing some of the best food in the country at this year’s Great Taste Award.
The Blagdon Farm Shop, situated in the Milkhope Centre, has received gold awards for two of its hallmark products, which are produced on its own farm.
The awards are acknowledged as the benchmark for speciality food and drink and have been described as the ‘Oscars’ of the food world and the ‘epicurean equivalent of the Booker prize’.
The first winner was itsvery own, dry aged Belted Galloway sirloin steak, and second up was the Blagdon Estate Honey – both of which are made on site.
Shop manager Jo Celerier said: “We are very proud of these two products, our Belted Galloway beef is the mainstay of our butchery, and the beekeeper Ian is a very important part of the farm.”
