Members of a popular lunch club welcomed a special visitor this week.

Wansbeck MP Ian Lavery joined Age UK Northumberland’s lunch club in Morpeth to find out more about the club, which meets on Wednesdays and Fridays and is run by volunteers.

For £5 visitors to the service can have a hot meal, dessert and tea and biscuits as well as socialise with peers from the community.

Ian Lavery said: “These kind of activities in our local community are incredibly important. It is not just about the hot meal, this club is actually about the social aspect, the support and the camaraderie.

“Many have come for years, some have just joined. Either way, there is always room for more and it is a service I would like to see grow.”

Betty Dymond, who has been co-ordinating the club for 28 years, said: “The lunch club been really popular and we think it is great value for money, with a hot meal and chance to socialise with your peers in the local community.”
