Lunch club queen hands over reins

A kind-hearted Morpeth lady had handed over the reins of a lunch club after three decades at the helm.

Betty Dymond has co-ordinated the Age UK club every Wednesday and Friday at St James Church Hall for the past 30 years.

The great-grandmother, who lives with husband John, will still be part of the club, but is keen to spend time with her family, and will be handing over the role to Margaret Cooper.

She said: “People ask me why I have given so much over the years, the truth is I have had a lot of pleasure out of it.

“Margaret has been part of the lunch club for nearly three years and knows everyone well. With her experience she was the perfect choice to be co-ordinator.”

Margaret helped out at another lunch club in Bolton for nine years before she moved to the north east to be with her son and his family in Morpeth.
