Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer has kicked off the countdown to this year’s Children’s Cancer Run.

The former striker met children at the Great North Children’s Hospital in Newcastle to set the wheels in motion for the 32nd run campaign and launch the official opening of postal and online applications.

Alan said: “It’s a great honour to be asked here to help launch the Children’s Cancer Run, once again. Every year I’m blown away by the incredible amount of money raised by those who take part in the run.

“The money raised for the NECCR (North East Children’s Cancer Research) is vitally important not only for children in the north east, but across the world.”

The Children’s Cancer Run will be held at Newcastle Racecourse, Gosforth, on Sunday, May 11. Entry is £12 or £6 for under sevens.
