Man assaulted in pedestrian subway

A 23-year-old man needed hospital treatment after being struck across the head when walking through a pedestrian subway in Ashington.

The incident happened between 8pm and 9pm on Thursday, February 20, in the underpass from Newbiggin to North Seaton in Ashington.

The man was walking along the underpass when he was assaulted and struck across the head.

He suffered injuries including a fractured cheekbone and was taken to Wansbeck District General Hospital where he was released following treatment.

Police are appealing for witnesses, anyone who was in the area and who may have seen or heard anything suspicious is asked to contact police.
