Man charged following stabbing in Seaton Delaval

A NEWCASTLE man has been charged with wounding and aggravated burglary following an incident in Seaton Delaval on Wednesday.

Philip Reid Hunter, 50, of Chestnut Road, Cowgate, Newcastle, was due to appear at South East Northumberland Mags this morning (Thursday).

It follows an incident at a house in Wheatridge when a group of people went inside and assaulted a 25-year-old, resulting in him being stabbed in the shoulder.

He was taken to the RVI hospital in Newcastle to receive treatment, and has now been discharged.

Five people were arrested on Wednedsay have been bailed pending further enquiries.

They are currently in custody helping police with their enquiries.

DS Lorraine Wardle said after the incident: “At this stage it’s not believed this was a random incident and five arrests have been made.

“Enquiries are ongoing to establish exactly what happened.”
