Man stabbed in Ashington robbery

A man suffered stab wounds after an apparent robbery in Ashington.

Police were called to Wansbeck General Hospital at 1.30am on Sunday, July 14, after reports a man was being treated for stab wounds to his buttock and a laceration to his cheek.

Officers believe the man, who had cash taken, was injured after a robbery in the rear lane of Queen Street at 10.20pm.

A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of robbery

Ashington Sergeant Mark Gatiss said: “While we understand incidents of this nature can cause concern, I’d like to reassure people that it was an isolated incident and it’s believed those involved are known to each other.

“Extra patrols are taking place in the area and a man has been arrested and is helping with enquiries.”
