Staff at a new food store in Cramlington are excited at the prospect of finally welcoming their first customers tomorrow.

Store manager Angela Lord and her team have been working non-stop since last Friday to get the new M&S Simply Food store ready for its grand opening tomorrow (Wednesday).

The new store, in Westmoreland Retail Park next to Manor Walks Shopping Centre in Cramlington, has been getting the finishing touches put to it and shelves filled after staff got the keys last Friday.

Angela, who was commercial manager of the M&S store in Darlington before getting the call last September that she had got the Cramlington position, said: “It’s a little bit hectic, there is a lot to do but I’m sure it will all be worth while.

“Everybody is excited about the store opening.”

There will be a special ribbon cutting ceremony at 10am tomorrow to open the store, with other events taking place during the day for customers.

Angela added: “We’ve been counting down the days until the opening. It felt like it was forever away, not it is here.

“I can’t wait to get in there. It’s everything we’ve worked for and it’s really exciting.

“I can’t wait for the customers to come in.”

Angela, who lives in Consett, said customers will be able to order items from the M&S website, such as clothes, and be able to collect them from the Cramlington store.

A total of 70 people will be working at the store, which also includes an in-store bakery and a 50-seat M&S Cafe.

Angela added: “The new store will provide local customers with a great new shopping experience.

“Shoppers will be able to select their favourite M&S products from the Food Hall and Bakery and relax in the new M&S Café. We are all very excited to welcome customers through our doors on Wednesday.”
