A new viewing platform bridge has been officially opened at maritime centre in Northumberland.
Entrepreneur and former Newcastle United chairman Sir John Hall was on hand to open the new bridge at Newbiggin Maritime Centre which also saw the opening of a new disabled lift.
Sir John Hall has supported the project since its development, over the last ten years.
The bridge is another part of the jigsaw in the coastal centre with funding for this part of the project coming from SITA Trust that funded the bridge as well as the disabled lift in the Mary Joicey Hall.
Sir John Hall said: “Things like this only happen because people make them happen, and that shows the measure of a place, when you get people coming together to improve the quality of life and the quality of the environment in their town.
“I have a great fondness for Newbiggin.
“I must applaud everyone as it’s wonderful what they’ve done.
“I hope they carry on with their dreams.
“Too often we haven’t had enough ambition in this area, and it is only by ourselves wanting to make change that we will get change.
“It is wonderful to see this.
“The area is on the up and I hope everyone carries on the good work.”
Further funding has been realised from public donations as part of the build a bridge appeal.
