After minor restoration works, a war memorial commemorating the lives of 94 former pupils and two masters of a Bedlington school who lost their lives during the First World War has gone on show.

The plaque from Whitley Memorial First School was thought to have been destroyed by fire in 1970, but was returned to the school last March after it was discovered by a Dutch family.

The plaque has been kept in St Cuthbert’s Church and has been put on display in the community space, where it will remain until it is returned to the school.

Members of the public are invited to see the plaque on Thursdays between 11am and 1pm, or after any service.
