National Express launches online rail fares to continental Europe
NATIONAL Express East Coast rail passengers can now buy through-fares to continental Europe online.
This comes through a joint initiative with Eurostar, the high-speed international train operator.
Linking in to Eurostar's booking system, the National Express website enables passengers to book one fare which is valid for the entire journey from their local mainline station to their continental destination.
Visitors to nationalexpresseastcoast.com can now search online for the best routes, journey times and fares to destinations such as Paris, Brussels, Disneyland Resort Paris and 75 other Eurostar-connecting destinations across France, any station in Belgium and now destinations such as Amsterdam in the Netherlands and Cologne in Germany.
Standard class, return leisure fares to Paris and Brussels start from between 67 and 89, for travel from National Express East Coast-served towns and cities, including Peterborough, Leeds, York, Newcastle, Edinburgh and Aberdeen.
David Franks, National Express East Coast managing director, said: "The new facility to book through-fares online will make rail travel to mainland Europe even easier for our passengers.
"Our website already offers a comprehensive one-stop shop for travel in the UK and we are now pleased to offer more journey options connecting with Eurostar international rail services at the newly restored St Pancras International."
National Express East Coast train services to London Kings Cross connect with up to 13 Eurostar services a day to Paris and seven a day to Brussels.
Fastest journey times, including connections, are Peterborough - Paris 4hrs; York - Brussels 4hrs 50mins; Leeds - Paris 5hrs 35mins; Newcastle - Paris 6hrs; and Edinburgh - Brussels 7hrs 25mins.
