New fund to increase sport levels

SPORTING opportunities are set to be increased in the county thanks to a new fund.

The ‘Sports Challenge Fund’ aims to build on the enthusiasm around the London 2012 Olympics and help create a lasting legacy in Northumberland.

Organisations can bid for funding to help raise participation levels.

Coun Neil Bradbury, executive member for leisure, said: “I’d be particularly pleased to support sports where participation in the county is lower than the national average.”
