Families looking to lead a healthier lifestyle are being encouraged to sign up to a new programme starting in the New Year.
Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust’s ‘Get Active Northumberland’ programme is running ten-week courses in both Bedlington and Ashington to encourage parents and children aged five to 13 to be more active and eat more healthily.
The trust is also holding a six-week ‘mini GAN’ course in Ashington for parents with younger children aged two to four years.
The programmes involve fun physical activities and the chance to learn about healthy eating.
They will run on Mondays at Bedlingtonshire Community High School in Bedlington between 4pm and 6pm, starting Monday, January 13.
The Ashington course runs on Tuesdays at the town’s children’s centre between 4pm and 6pm from Tuesday, January 14.
‘Mini GAN’ will run on Wednesdays at Ashington Children’s Centre from 12.30pm to 2.30pm from Wednesday, January 29.
To attend the courses families must contact the GAN team on 01670 784 186 or email firstname.lastname@example.org in advance.
Louise Ray, health improvement practitioner specialist at Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust, said: “The courses are a great way for parents and their children to learn about healthy eating and being active together and, above all, they are a lot of fun.
“We would encourage people in the Ashington and Bedlington areas to get in touch with the team to find out more.”
