A retired GP has joined to ranks of Northumbria Healthcare NHS Foundation Trust.

Peter Sanderson has been appointed non-executive director of the trust by its Council of Governors for a three-year term in office.

The 68-year-old worked as a family doctor in Guide Post for 31 years and is looking forward to bringing his experience to the board.

Peter, of Newbiggin, said: “I am delighted to take up this role.

“Although I have retired from my role as a family doctor treating patients, I am keen to remain involved in healthcare and this is a perfect opportunity to use my experience.

“When I started in general practice in 1975, care provided in a GP surgery and in other settings, such as a hospital, was entirely separate.”

Peter has also spent five years as an RAF medical officer and was secretary of the Northumberland Local Medical Committee for 16 years.

Trust chairman Brian Flood said: “I am delighted to welcome Peter and I am sure he will be a fantastic addition to our organisation.

“His wealth of experience as a GP will be invaluable as we all work together to provide the best care to our patients.”
