Visitors to Wansbeck Riverside Park in Ashington can now benefit from a new flight of access steps.

For years visitors parking in Blackclose Dene car park near Stakeford Bridge, and who want to follow the river downstream, have had to cross the busy A196 or climb carefully down a steep grass bank to get to the riverside path.

Now, thanks to the flight of steps constructed by Northumberland County Council, a convenient connection has been created linking the car park to the riverside.

The steps also include a side channel which will allow cyclists to push their bikes up and down the steps, and there is improved access from the nearby Fallowfield estate.

Coun Brian Gallacher said: “I’m delighted that we’ve been able to provide this facility which has improved safety and convenience for users of the Riverside Park.”
